Eggfood plays an essential part of any birds diet; they can
provide the extra daily nutrients that are not sufficiently present in regular diets of
seeds, vegetables, fruits etc. Eggfood adds many other essential supplements to your
birds diet - amino acids, vitamins, and animal proteins, trace elements and more.
Eggfood is the easiest way to bring your birds into tiptop condition. It also helps keep
birds in condition during the stressful breeding times as well as providing a soft food
for the young. Many species of softbilled birds require eggfood as well as an
insectivore food to raise their young. We recommend using two or three different brands on
many species of finch and softbilled birds to provide the needed diet to raise many birds.
One trick we use to get new birds to try to eat eggfood, is to keep a canary with them.
Canaries will teach new birds to try most soft foods including eggfood. Just be sure to
remove the canaries before the breeding season so they will not disrupt the new parents. Eggfood should be fed daily to any bird during stressful times like
breeding and molting, or while the young are growing. We have found that during the
non-breeding or molting season three times a week keeps all birds in top feather and
health. This will provide the birds with a
sufficient high quality of animal protein to maintain
body cells as well as vitamins and the minerals for digestion and metabolism. You should
not need to add any other vitamins to your birds diet and would not do so, unless you do
so on the advice of your veterinarian. Please remember to store and un-used eggfood in a
cool dry location, and only buy commercially produced eggfood to avoid salmonella and many
other problems.
